This artwork is a collaboration between us at Wilay Designs, Jazz and Kristal, as well as our Mum, Dee, and youngest brother, Larryn.

It represents the ongoing sharing of culture, knowledge, connection, learning and stories within our family. At the centre is a meeting place, surrounded by woven pieces representing people coming together around the fire. The four of us are joined by the two aunties who taught us how to weave, Aunty Phyllis and the late Aunty Eileen, acknowledging their knowledge and our connection to their beautiful Ngarrindjeri Country, as well as our late Nan, who shared so much of our culture and knowledge with us.

The waterways, pelican, kangaroo, lomandra and rushes, painted by Jazz, bring Country into the artwork. The fish were painted by our brother, while the weaving was created by Mum and Kristal.

The kangaroo and its tracks represent forward movement- a reminder that we continue to move forward while carrying the knowledge, stories and connections passed down to us. Each woven piece is unique, just as each of our journeys are.

Together, they represent the knowledge we have been taught, the connections we share and what we continue to carry forward.
